About Designverse

Designverse — built under the Move with Design brand — teaches design from “what is design?” through to advanced professional practice. Its organizing idea is that design is an evolution: the printing press leads to typography, typography to publishing, publishing to graphic communication, and eventually to the interface you are reading this on. Facts in isolation are trivia. Connected, they explain why the built world looks the way it does.

Methodology

Every historical claim carries a source, and each source records its type — book, museum, institution, academic paper, primary source. Where scholarship is genuinely unsettled, or a date is approximate, the text says so rather than inventing false precision. Attribution in design is often shared or contested; where that is true, it is stated rather than flattened into a single hero.

Design and its costs

Design is taught here as a social force, not only an aesthetic one. That means the achievements and the damage sit on the same page: consumerism and planned obsolescence, plastic waste, surveillance and data extraction, persuasive and addictive patterns, exclusion and inaccessibility, algorithmic bias, and the labor and environmental cost of hardware. These sections are factual and sourced, not sermons.

Current developments

Anything happening now — generative AI especially — is labeled as current, emerging or experimental rather than presented as settled history. The platform describes live debates instead of predicting their outcome.

How it is built

Content is stored as structured JSON, entirely separate from the interface. Lessons, events, movements, designers, artifacts, books and glossary terms are all data, validated against a schema on every build. That means the knowledge base can grow for years — like an encyclopedia — without the application being rewritten, and it can migrate to a CMS or a database later without touching the content itself.

The illustrations are generated, not photographed. Every lesson diagram and movement motif is animated SVG drawn in code, which keeps the platform fast, fully themeable, and free of image licensing constraints.

Completion, test scores, streaks and badges are stored in your browser only. There is no account and nothing is uploaded. Clearing your site data clears your history — you can also reset it deliberately.
